In just 6 weeks, Sol refurbished Blackthorn’s main buildings to provide a new, dedicated space for students with special educational needs, a project requiring both internal and external works.

We resurfaced the existing courtyard playground and designed an optimised, multi-use environment, including a bright, vibrant new play area with sensory zones to support students’ cognitive development. We incorporated different surfaces, such as soft plants, artificial turf and different gradients and installed a large canopy in the courtyard to enable outdoor learning.

We also installed security to protect the children, fresh new classrooms, a soft-play area and breakout therapy rooms. Upon completion, the head teacher was thrilled with the new space and reported the whole project had a fantastic and positive effect on both staff and students.
